We have been talking about clean lifestyle and clean beauty for a while. Since pregnancy and birth, I have been looking for a clean solution for my makeup. There was no perfect clean makeup brand that I could switch to. Most of the clean makeup products (I tried) were not designed for full coverage looks under flashlights. This time I freshened up my fall look with some products from Clove & Hallow. I prepared my skin with BLURFLEX™ Priming Serum. This is a rich primer that hydrates the skin and softens the texture. I only applied some Conceal + Correct concealer to hide imperfections on the face. My shade is 03 Light With Neutral Undertones. This concealer is lightweight and buildable - it won’t cake your face. I can skip my foundation after I use this concealer. For the eye colors, I added some shimmering warm shades from the Sunrise Pressed Pigment Palette. The eyeshadow powder is highly pigmented and smooth. These colors are perfect for fall. I finished my eye makeup with Line + Define Liquid Eyeliner and FlexLash Mascara. Clove & Hallow’s Glow Skin Cream Color (Ripple) and Cheeky Cream Color(Vibes) worked perfectly for this look. The cream texture is wearable and friendly to the skin - I can touch up anytime during the day with its super buildable texture. Powder complexion products work well for the look but sometimes they cause large pores. My skin felt breathable and comfortable with cream. I appreciate that the complexion products come with refillable cases and single refill pans for easy recycling and waste reduction. For the lips, I used the Lip Creme in Crush, a semi-matte bold mauve shade. This lipstick was so creamy and moisturizing. My lips didn’t feel dry and the color stayed after wearing it for hours. The last step was to set the look with the Lock + Rock setting spray. This is an illuminating lightweight mist that glows up the look for longer wear.

Which type of exfoliant do you like? I just found my favorite exfoliant product that I can't live without...

When people are wondering if they need to switch to liquid exfoliant at all, I found this amazing bottle from Japan. Cure's Natural Aqua Gel. This is the best exfoliant product in Japan or maybe in the world. I don't dislike liquid exfoliant but some products smell too acidy. I don't like to use them before bed. That's why I like to use Cure. This is my 4th week of using this exfoliant. The gel liquid is not physical exfoliant which removes dead skin by scrubbing the surface. It's not acid liquid which dissolves death skin. These options can be too harsh for sensitive areas and increase the risk of sun damage. And it takes time to kick in.

How does Cure's aqual gel work? It has activated hydrogen water.

This is bottle of face peeling water. It's so mild and gentle, no fragrance, no acid. I didn't smell anything. It's just very easy to see the result with no concern about any "iffy" chemicals.

First I removed my makeup, cleansed the face and padded dry. My skin was ready for the exfoliation. I only used one pump of the gel for the whole face. I let it sit on my face for a while. The active ingredient reacted to my dead skin cells.

The texture is light and more liquid and gel. It looks clear on the skin. Again, the main ingredient is activated hydrogen water so there won't be any irritation or interesting smell. Then I massaged the gel in circle over the whole face. The dead skin was literally peeled off without scrubbing grains. I saw my fresh "baby" skin underneath. The result is immediate - how amazing. I use the gel twice a week to keep it fresh.

After the skin was nicely exfoliated, I applied Cure's Water Treatment Skin Cream. It's a super lightweight moisturizer. For fall and winter, I usually use creamy thick cream to fight the dry weather of LA. This Skin Cream is great to secure the water in the skin for the whole day. It's not adding any sticky layer or greasy content to the skin. My skin is moistruzied and it still can "breath". I can lay another serum or heavy cream if necessary. It's good for makeup prep as well.

After ombré has been popular for years, balayage is the recent trend. A balayage will give your locks a vibrant and shiny effect instantly. For my dark brown natural hair, some medium brown and light blonde pieces are nicely blended. Really love the dimensional look when the hair is softly curled. I am always afraid of dramtic change of hairstyle. A fresh balayage is never a bad idea. It is just like my previous style with some freshly sun-kissed glow. The dramatic transition from dark brown to blonde is replaced by seamlessly blended colors.

Hey everyone, I am so excited to share with you guys my experience at the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Celebration at Macy’s Santa Anita yesterday. This was my first time joining this beauty and culture event at Macy’s but I have to say that this was one of the best beauty events for Asian community that I have ever attended.

Our special guest for the event was Jenn Im, a Korean Beauty and Style Influencer who was very famous for her K-Beauty Videos on Youtube and her clothing line Eggie Shop. At the event, we had a beauty presentation with Jenn, complimentary beauty services at Macy’s VIP lounge and beauty gift bags full of travel essentials picked by Jenn including the newest products from Benefit, Chanel and more.

On the stage, Jenn did a 20-min makeup demonstration starting from a freshly cleaned face and shared her insights of beauty trends, Asian culture and social media. She highlighted the importance of buildable foundation, setting powder and shimmering highlighter for a healthy glowy complexion. She also shared her pre-wedding skincare tips like eating less sodium and having facials four days before the Big Day.
The host XiXi Yang from PopStarTV had an in-depth interview with Jenn discussing how culture influenced Asian women’s aesthetics and their unique choices of beauty products. As an Asian American, I particularly felt the difference between the mainstream American makeup and our Asian makeup. Like what Jenn said, traditionally Asian women love to light skin tone, minimal tan and weightless natural look. That’s why sunscreen, sheer foundation and all the skincare products are so important to Asian women (and now even to Asian men). Younger generations would embrace the American beauty style by trying some sun-kissed skin tone, contouring the face or wearing bold colors. I personally love natural makeup and dewy skin with good complexion products. I use a lot of products from Becca, Benefit and Lancôme. Of course, Macy’s Beauty has it all:)

Speaking of culture, Asian women are usually shy and introverted but that is why more Asian influencers express themselves on social media. The Asian community has shaped the social media landscape with their own voices – I am so proud to be part of this industry.

After the beauty presentation, we had a photo session with Jenn. She nicely greeted everyone and we had so much fun taking selfies and group photos at the stage.
The most exciting part of this event was the VIP lounge where I experienced the newest Macy’s beauty products. I had a makeup retouch by the makeup artist. Now I am sharing my favorite products that I found at the lounge.
Lancôme buildable high shine long-wear lip gloss (shade 366 Power Rose)
I have been a big fan of Lancôme for its feminine brand image and premium products. The makeup artist layered the buildable high-shine long-wear lip gloss on my Lancôme matt shaker liquid lipstick for a fuller and glossier look. I really love its high pigmentation and it is very moisturizing and wearable. I highly recommend this lipstick.
Shiseido full lash multi-dimension mascara
Asian lashes are often small and pointing down. This Shiseido mascara is perfect for Asian lashes. Its light-weight texture helps to curl, lift and thicken the lashes without dragging them down. It is super buildable even if you apply over five layers. I was so happy to find this product.

No Dark Spots? No Skin Problem | Specific Beauty Skin Brightening System

When I have good skin, I enjoy good mood.
When I turned 30 last year, I started to observe some minor dark spots under my eyes, which totally freaked me out over this new age bracket. I didn't realize that I had been skipping sunscreen for outdoor time or used any unique products to prevent or treat the potential hyperpigmentation. Not until I met Dr. Heather, the founder of Specific Beauty, I started this amazing Specific Beauty journey to fight against aging and multi-hues.

After I attended a beauty presentation by Dr. Heather last fall, I learned that my dark spots came from not only the sun exposure on the beach but also my unique ethnic background. I would like to share my "23andMe" Report with you all (I am Chinese obviously...) For women of color like me, we are easily over-producing melanin on our skin, the hyper-pigmentation depending on each one of the origins. Sounds scary but there are solutions to save the skin. Dr. Heather designed the brand "Specific Beauty" to treat rick complexions of women coming from ethnic backgrounds.

Interestingly, I have African and Yakut ancestors.

For the brightening system, I particularly love the three products - dark spot corrector, skin brightening serum and lighten & brighten eye cream.
- Brightening Serum: This one is amazingly rich but not oily at all. I have very dry skin that constantly need moisturizing in the morning, before bed, before I start to do makeup. But After using this serum, my skin starts to be brightened while it's still hydrated. My previous whitening products are as hydrating as this one.
- Dark Spot Corrector: This corrector is to lift the dark spots. I applied it after the corrector pads. The corrector works on my skin for the whole night. After 14 days, I see the two dark spots under my eyes were lifted - one even totally disappeared. But this is limited to a certain period of time. For long-term, maybe using sunscreen everyday will be helpful to prevent melanin deposits.
- Lighten & Brighten Eye Cream: The cream is very gentle and spreadable. I love this eye cream that it smoothes my under-eye skin without causing irritation. It improves my overall eye skin not just its uneven tone.

Smooth and Seamless | Bobbi Brown Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation

This month I collaborated with Bobbi Brown for its new skin long-wear weightless foundation. I am so obsessed with this foundation - it's perfect for a natural look yet it's full coverage. I tried three colors - Natural, Natural Tan and Golden Natural. My best-matched shade is 4 Natural.

Foundation is the key for a good makeup look. Without a smooth and longwear foundation, the makeup will start to melt and shine after a few hours. Good liquid foundation also keeps skin moisturized and hydrated when we wear other color cosmetics products. Searching for a good shade is also very important. A wrong shade often makes me a totally different person. I agree that if we go one shade darker, the faces would look a little slimmer and sexier. But if it's a perfect matched shade, the final look will be more true to you. Often time we wear makeup for everyday look not for special effects or dramatic fashion photos, right?
This new Bobbi Brown foundation is matte but its matte finish is pretty multidimensional, definitely not flat at all. Sometimes I had to use different shades on my face to achieve this dimensional effect but with this bottle, the look was pretty dimensional already. I used this Artis oval brush to apply one layer of foundation after the primer. The full-coverage foundation did smoothen my uneven tones and covered some minor imperfections around my noses and on the forehead. I don't use concealers for a natural look. Again, I am very happy with the exactly matched shade.
After a long winter, without too much outdoor sun exposure, my skin tone has been lifted at least 1-2 shades. My previous foundations didn't match as well as before. This one came right in time for this season. The SPF 15 protects the skin from light sun exposure during the day which is essential to prevent hyper pigmentation.
This Bobbi Brown foundation stays put on my face for over 10 hours or even longer. If you love matte, oil-free, shine-free look like this, you may head out to Sephora and try it. This is a premium brand, it's priced at $46. But I believe it's a good investment for its skin-true shade and long-wear quality.
